iPhone May Get a Guest Mode to Protect Your Data and Secrets. |
Apple might soon introduce a new feature called Guest Mode for iPhones, which would greatly enhance the protection of personal data.
This feature would allow users to limit the functions, apps, and personal information visible when they lend their phone to others.
However, it’s still just a patent for now, as reported by TechRadar.
Based on the patent description, Guest Mode would be useful in situations where you need to temporarily hand over your phone, like to a friend or colleague.
Parents might also appreciate this feature, as they can let their kids play games without worrying about access to payment services or sensitive apps.
The system would grant access to another user after they authenticate themselves.
Plus, the Guest Mode settings could be controlled from another device, such as an iPad or another iPhone, allowing for remote adjustments.
While iOS 18 already has features like hiding apps behind biometric protection and enabling Guided Access (which locks the phone to a specific app), Guest Mode would combine these features and make them easier to use.
Mac users have long enjoyed the ability to create guest accounts with similar capabilities.
Still, it's important to note that this is only a patent. Apple often files patents for experimental ideas, some of which never make it to production.
Guest Mode on iPhone could end up being one of those ideas that never sees the light of day, but we can always hope for its release!
