Google Lens Introduces Search by Video Feature: What You Need to Know. |
Google Lens, the popular tool for searching the web using photos, has taken a big step forward with a new feature—search by video! Now, instead of just searching with images, you can use video to find answers.
For example, if you see a fish in an aquarium doing something strange, you can record a video to figure out what's going on.
Here's how it works: simply open the Google Lens app on your smartphone, hold the capture button to record a video, and you can even ask questions out loud while recording—like, “Why are these fish swimming together?” Google's AI, Gemini, will analyze the video and provide an answer right away.
According to Rajan Patel, Google's Vice President of Engineering, the service treats the video as a series of images and processes it using computer vision technology.
After that, Gemini, a special AI model, analyzes the sequence of frames and finds the answer from the web.
While the service can't yet recognize sounds—such as bird songs in a video—Patel mentioned that Google is already experimenting with this feature too.
The new video search function is expected to be available soon on both Android and iOS worldwide. For now, though, the feature will only work in English.
This exciting update makes Google Lens even more versatile, making it easier to search and understand the world around us.
